Dear Friends,
I haven't opened myself up very much on here as this is a site for YOU! I blog in other places. But, I feel to share a little with you in hopes that your heart will be turned towards a very important cause; moms in need. This is not for me - this is for scholarship money being requested to provide an opportunity for single-mothers to attend a 2 yr. college and improve their chances of a better life for them and for their children.

One Great Thing...
"One great thing the Lord requires of each of us is to provide a home where a happy, positive influence for good exists. In future years the costliness of home furnishings or the number of bathrooms will not matter much, but what will matter significantly is whether our children felt love and acceptance in the home. It will greatly matter whether there was happiness and laughter, or bickering and contention."
"There has never been and there never will be a satisfactory substitute for the home established by the God of Heaven. If this nation is to endure, the home must be safeguarded, strengthened, and restored to it's rightful importance." -President Benson
Thanks to all of you who are striving for these lofty ideals. It's not always easy but the quest is worth it. And, we know that the Lord will help us all along the way - not just in the end. He desires to partner with us in raising these special souls in truth and light.
Blessings to you all.
Heidi

Spiritual Influence
"Spiritual Influence is the product of disposition and living. No one ever acquires it who does not want it and live for it. it is in reality the Spirit of God manifest through man. We often call it testimony because it is characterized by a deep and abiding conviction of the existence of God and the truth of his gospel. It is the expression of perfect faith and a sincere love for God's children. If our young people could but know of its worth, I am sure they would strive for it." President Stephen L. Richards, CR, Oct. 1943

How to Make Perfect Corn on the Cob with NO silks
My mom sent this to me recently. It's a short 2 min. video on how to have perfect corn on the cob with NO shucking and very CLEAN ears of corn. Pretty cool if you use a microwave. If you hesitate to do so then this still might give you ideas as to how you might think the process differently.

A Hidden Treasure; Online Scripture Stories for Children
I attended a class at BYU Education Week in August entitled something like "Hidden Treasures on Church Websites". We were shown amazing resources and tools that the church has provided for all of us to learn, progress, prepare and establish homes of faith. They're not really hidden - we just have to know what to look for.
Recently, a friend reminded me of this site on Book of Mormon Video clips of stories for children and families. They are beautiful and well-done. I can't think of a better Sabbath day activity for children and youth. These stories help us all understand better the reality of our brothers and sisters of earlier times as well as Prophets of God and the visit of the Savior to the faithful in Ancient America.

We Rise No Higher Than We Think
I found this quote today and wanted to share. "We rise no higher than
we think, no higher than we plan, no higher than our purpose, no higher
than our faith." -Richard L. Evans
Isn't it a powerful thing to think about? It goes along with another thought from Howard W. Hunter who said "As man's thoughts turn to God and the things that pertain to God, man undergoes a spiritual transformation. It hits him from the commonplace and gives to him a noble and Godlike character."
That is one reason I have loved homeschooling. We've tried to make a home a place where the Spirit of God could dwell and where love, in abundance, had the opportunity to be nourished and nurtured. It's not been always easy - but much easier than the ramifications of the alternative.
Thank you, to all of you, for doing the same. It's nice to know that there are so many of us on similar quests and with similar values and goals. It's a blessing to mingle and intermingle with many of you.

Who Does God's Work, Get God's Pay
This poem has come to my mind several times over the past few weeks:
Who does God's work will get God's pay
However long may seem the day
However weary be the way
No mortal hand, God's hand can stay
He may not pay as others pay
In gold or skills or raiment's gay
In goods that perish and decay
But his high wisdom knows a way
And this is sure let come what may
Who does God's work will get God's pay -author unknown
There is no greater pay than the blessings of the Lord! I feel that fact deeply and most gratefully. Spirituality, Peace, Direction, Contentment, Gratitude, etc. are all gifts of the Spirit that come directly from God. They can fill us with the bread of life when nothing else satisfies.
Certain Conference talks stick out to each of us. I remember one from 1985 by Elder Robert E. Wells entitled Adventures of the Spirit. For some reason that message has stayed with me. He talked about the adventures of the spirit being much more long-lasting and meaningful than any other life adventures we may try to take. I second that thought. Nothing else can compensate or even satisfy the deep hungering and longing we all have for truth and the real purposes of life.
As this blog reaches out to many across the world I am deeply gratified to know that the work that I felt prompted to do years ago - is making an impact on others. The blessings have not been financial; but rather spiritual. And....I feel that I am getting God's pay right now. I am thrilled beyond words to know that I am part of a work greater than myself and ....an instrument in His hands to lift up hands that hang low and strengthen feeble knees.
You are ALL part of this same great mission; for without all of you we would not have this site. Thank you for what you do in your homes and families. Thank you for striving to keep your lives safe and sacred. Thank you for sharing your personal accomplishments and family struggles with all of the rest of us. Bless you for striving to do the best that you can amidst unseen opposition and contrary to worldly trends.
May the Lord continue to bless us all in this work of being a light to the world - the actual light being that of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
