How Do We Obtain Daily Living Water?

Last week we had a wonderful women's meeting at church (Relief Society) and were given a powerful message of truth by a valiant woman in our ward.  She discussed with us the importance of having the word of God 'written' in our hearts.  I believe, also, that the Lord's word and will should be the center of all we think and do.

Here are some quotes from her message that can instill in our souls a reminder of the importance of the Lord's word; the Holy Scriptures, and in particular, the Book of Mormon; Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

"There is another reason why we should read the Book of Mormon: By doing so we will fill and refresh our minds with a constant flow of that “water” which Jesus said would be in us “a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). We must obtain a continuing supply of this water if we are to resist evil and retain the blessings of being born again.
 

"The great overall struggle in the world today is, as it has always been, for the souls of men. Every soul is personally engaged in the struggle, and he makes his fight with what is in his mind. In the final analysis the battleground is, for each individual, within himself. Inevitably he gravitates toward the subjects of his thoughts. WHY Study the Scriptures?

Why are we 'supposed' to Study the Scriptures?  Can't we make-it without doing so?  Aren't we able to access truths in other ways?  Do we really need to do it regularly?

Do we need physical nourishment and exercise regularly?

My experience is that opening the scriptures - opens a conduit to Heaven.

When my children were small and sometimes scared at bedtime - I'd have them snuggle their personal copy of the Book of Mormon.  It seemed to comfort them even more than their stuffed animal.  That was because they'd previously felt the Spirit teach them sacred and comforting truths during family scripture study.  They knew, also, from my testimony at the end of some of our discussions, that these teachings were more than just good ideas.  They were the sure-way home.
