What is the Mormon 'Relief Society'?

If you're already a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you know about the women's organization called 'Relief Society'.  But, for those of you who have no idea what we're talking about - let me share from my perspective.

'Relief Society' is the oldest and largest women's organization in the world.  It began as a way for the early church members to provide relief to those in need.  It's continue purpose is to build faith and personal righteousness, help one another, provide relief to those in need and strengthen the family.

We meet together weekly to have gospel discussions, read and ponder the scriptures together, sing hymns of praise together and help one another.

It's a beautiful way to feel connected to those around us and to learn to care for and listen to one another.  We share thoughts about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how we can better follow Him.  We learn ways to strengthen our homes, beautify the areas around us, be modest in word and deed, speak kindly to one another, and develop talents that will help us be better wives, mothers, neighbors and community members.

I've been a member of this great organization since I was 18 and invite all of the rest of you to join.  It's a wonderful way to feel part of something that honors and sustains women and which helps us to become the best that we can be.  It's a great place to develop greater leadership, teaching, homemaking, friendship, service and humanitarian skills.

The world-wide organization provides great service whereever there is a need.  Different groups of women, in various parts of the world, gather together as needed to provide humanitarian, hygiene and first aid kits, make quilts, collect donations of clothing, shoes, books, medical supplies etc. to share with those in need - no matter their circumstance, location, nationality, religion.  We just want to help those who are suffering.  And, sometimes, that includes those in our own areas and sometimes it's those in the far reaches of the globe.
